In this quick automation guide, we cover how to set up a low light level automation.
For this automation, you’ll need a light level monitor or motion sensor that makes the LUX level available to Apple Homekit, in this automation ill be using the Even Motion Sensor (review incoming).
So let’s get started.
1: Open the Apple Homekit application, you can also create the automation using the Apple Shortcuts application.
2: Select the plus icon and select Add Automation.
3: Select the A Sensor Detects Something.
4: Scroll down the list of devices to the motion sensor or light sensor you want to use for this automation.
5: Now choose whether you want the automation to trigger on Rises above or Drops Below.
6: Next select the lux level you want to set as the minimum level for the automation to action. Once done, select next.
7: The final step is to select either the scene or light to act as part of the automation. Once selected you can either rename your automation or simply select done.
And that’s it, a simple automation to trigger when the light level of the sensor drops below the threshold you’ve set.
We will expand on this type in the next few weeks and we will discover how we can use this in different ways.
