Whether you’re setting the perfect ambience for movie night, optimising energy use, or boosting security while you’re away, HomeKit scenes allow you to tailor your home to suit your lifestyle. In this post, we’ll explore the key benefits of creating HomeKit scenes and how they can transform the way you interact with your home.
To create a scene in Apple HomeKit:
1. Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
2. Tap or click the "+" icon in the top right corner.
3. Select "Add Scene".
4. Choose "Custom" to create your own scene from scratch.
5. Name your scene something descriptive and easy to remember.
6. Tap "Add Accessories" to select the devices you want to include in the scene.
7. Choose the accessories you want to control with this scene, then tap "Done".
8. For each accessory, set its desired state for the scene (e.g., on/off, brightness level, color).
9. To preview the scene, tap "Test This Scene".
10. If you want the scene to appear on your Home app's main screen, enable "Include in Favourites".
11. Tap "Done" to save your new scene.
You can now activate the scene manually in the Home app, use Siri voice commands to trigger it, or incorporate it into automations. Scenes allow you to control multiple accessories simultaneously with a single tap or command, making it easy to set up your smart home for different activities or times of day.

Can I trigger scenes based on times of the day?
Yes, you can create scenes in Apple HomeKit that trigger based on specific times of day. Here's how to set up a time-based scene:
To make this scene trigger at a specific time:
1. Tap the "+" icon again and select "Add Automation".
2. Choose "A Time of Day Occurs" as the trigger.
3. Set the time you want the scene to activate.
4. You can also select specific days of the week for the automation to run.
5. Tap "Next" and select the scene you created as the action to run.
6. Tap "Done" to save the automation.
Now your scene will automatically trigger at the specified time(s). You can create multiple time-based automations for a single scene if you want it to activate at different times throughout the day.You can also create an automation to trigger scenes on set days, for example, you could create a "Weekday Morning" scene that turns on lights and adjusts the thermostat, then set it to run Monday through Friday at 7:00 AM.
Additionally, HomeKit allows you to create automations based on sunrise/sunset times, which can be useful for scenes that need to adjust with changing daylight hours throughout the year.
Remember, you can create multiple automations for a single scene if you need different schedules or want to trigger the same scene in various ways.
